Jim Tonkin has spent over 43 years in the beverage and food industries, creating success after success. He has become familiar as a well-known speaker, teacher and entrepreneur’s go-to mentor.
He has designed and implemented national infrastructure for dozens of clients in the food and beverage industry. He has successfully created and implemented business and financial strategies for domestic and international firms focusing on production and manufacturing, branding, sales, marketing and distribution.
Jim’s expertise spans the gamut from domestic cheese to potato chips, fortified pet waters to nutraceutical-functional and enhanced beverages. He has been heralded as the beverage expert or “guru” in the functional and nutraceutical beverage segments.
Food or beverage is always interesting conversation with Jim, since he always brings his characteristic, blunt, but heady wit and “take no prisoners,” unabashed style of industry spin. His enthusiasm and heartfelt passion for the industry evokes comments on the state of the industry, new trends, new products, innovation and future prognostication.
He’s a Board Director or Member of KonaRed (KRED), TIO Foods, Harvest Beverage Group, IMMORDL, Mix1Life (MIXX), South Pacific Elixirs, Toosum Snacks, Nitric Oxide Powder Blend, Kona Deep Corporation, Genius Juice, and Fresh Mix, among others.
Jason Cohen, CEO and co-founder of Halen Brands has established and grown several brands and products over the last 15 years.
His decision to be his own boss came early at the Smith School, where he earned a marketing degree. Later on, he sold insurance in New Jersey while looking for his first opportunity. In 1999 he co-founded Mamma Says, filling the market gap with tasty biscuits. He sold the business in 2005 for 4x revenue and moved quickly to his next project World Gourmet Marketing, driving revenue from $0 to $100 million in five years. In 2013, Jason partnered with the founders of SkinnyPop and successfully went public in 2015 for 1.4 billion in shareholder value.
More recent multimillion-dollar successes have included Rickland Orchards yogurt, Dippin’ Chips party snacks, and Mrs. Thinsters cookies. Halen Brands have also invested in brands such as Core Hydration, OWYN, Chef’s Cut Real Jerky, From the Ground Up, and JOYFULs. He has also invested, raised capital, and previously or currently holds Board Member positions for various companies, mostly in the consumer products space.
